Special General Meeting
Thursday, June 18 at 7 pm

The Board of Directors of Nanaimo Curling Club is calling a Special General Meeting, to be held virtually on Thursday, June 18 at 7 pm. This Special General Meeting will deal with a Special Resolution that will allow the NCC to borrow government funds to assist with financial constraints placed on the NCC by the Covid-19 pandemic. A 2/3 majority vote by attending club members is required for this Special Resolution to pass. All NCC members are welcome and requested to attend this Special General Meeting.

As you are aware, COVID-19 caused the club to close early in the 2019-2020 season. As the Board and the club manager plan for the 2020-2021 season, we are working to consider all options and develop contingency plans to protect our club and our members. The Board would like to take advantage of the Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) program, but it is loan-based and requires borrowing by our club. Information on the CEBA can be found at https://ceba-cuec.ca/.

As section 8.1 in the Bylaws of the NCC states that the Directors of NCC require the passing of a Special Resolution to allow borrowing of funds, the following special resolution is put to the NCC membership: “that the Board of Directors of The Nanaimo Curling Club be authorized, for the curling season 2020-2021 only, to borrow government funds in the amount of $40,000 under the Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) program, to assist in the operation of the Nanaimo Curling Centre.”

Since it is not allowed in BC to gather in groups of more than 50, we will meet virtually on Zoom with phone-in option available. A full presentation will be made to attending members and a vote will be taken. Zoom meeting information has been emailed to all members for whom we have email addresses.

If you are a member and did not get this email, please contact our secretary, Mark Blackell, at Mark.Blackell@viu.ca for Zoom meeting information. To avoid hacking, the Zoom meeting information will not be posted here.

If you have any questions in advance of the meeting, please contact our President, Mary Ellen Konyer, at president@nanaimocurlingclub.ca.

COVID-19 Impact on NCC

Dear NCC members,

After much consideration, NCC’s Board of Directors has made the decision to suspend leagues, practice ice, bonspiels, programs and events, effective 11:59 pm today, Friday March 13, due to rising concern regarding the COVID-19 virus. As advised by public health officials, it is important to make every effort to “flatten the curve” and protect health and safety in our community.

Our curling season will end after tonight's draws.
