The NCC 2020 Craft Brew Superspiel turned out to be an exciting and fun-filled weekend. 27 teams lined up in a traditional bonspiel draw with 4 events. Play started Thursday evening and carried on throughout the next 3 days until the final on Sunday at 1 PM. The A Event, sponsored by the Longwood Brewery, saw Wes Craig and his band of cohorts defeat Team Couckuyt, a hybrid team with 2 players from Seattle and 2 from Nanaimo. The Gladstone Brewing sponsored B event pitted Penny Shantz and her ladies, dubbed Team Longwood, against our locals only team of Jason White and buds. The White Team emerged victorious! In the C Event, Team Hobson plucked a win away from Team Awesome. Thanks to Red Arrow for sponsoring that event. In our Mt. Arrowsmith Brewing D Event, local Team McFarlane pulled a win away from Team Barnes out of Victoria. Thanks to a Guest Auctioneer, Tom Kelly from Calgary, the Team Calcutta generated a prize fund of $2,270 and we added a Calcutta for the Wolf Brewing Throw-Off competition just to here Tom’s auction skills again! Wes Craig captured the Wolf Brewing sponsored Draw to the Button trophy. Total cash prizes for the weekend were $10,250!!! Thank you to all of our fabulous sponsors!

We want to thank our volunteers who contributed their time to help make the weekend a success: Giles Parenteau and Brenda Chapin on the Host Desk, Dave and Penny Perpeluk selling 50-50 tickets, Mary Ellen Konyer, Steve Seixeiro, Tim Lokusch and Bart Sawyer for adjudicating the Throw-Off, Chad Raill for his announcing skill on Saturday for the banquet and the play-by-play on the throw off action, Harry Whittam for doing the Scoreboard team names and Steve Seixeiro for taking the team photos at the awards ceremony. Also, all of our ice technicians for superior quality ice every draw. Top of the House lounge staff kept the draft flowing and Live Wire provided a Surf and Turf supper for all of our participants. Thank you to our DJ, Teresa Battle, for donating her time and to Slava Govorov at Panago Pizza for donating the late night draw pizzas.

Many teams attended from out of town: Calgary, Alberta; Prince Rupert, BC; Victoria, BC; Duncan, BC, etc. Thank you to all of the out of town teams for participating! Everybody wants to come back next season so the dates have been set for February 18 to 21, 2021. Put it in your calendar now so you don’t miss this incredible event!
